Hello Shipmates. I was ask to tell of my experience with the VA and Agent Orange. I became Diabetic 2 years after I left Conway in 1967. I am insulin dependant and the disease morphs into other conditions. I became aware of the connection to The Conway through CVA. I submitted my claim in Aug 2009. I ask for a agent who was familar with Vietnam Claims. The rules have changed in just the last few years. Please read American Legion Magazine July 2010, pg 36 "Blue Water Battle". Also Google "Agent Orange" A list of related condition is given in the magazine. I got my disability approved in May 2010. It was back dated to 2008. Thanks again CVA and those shipmates who alerted me to the potential of a claim.

Med. officer on USS Conway from July, '45 'til April, '46. T%he Eaton and Squalus also were in our division. Lt.Com Harrington was the captain, Lt. Starr was Exec. and Lt Humphries was the Engineer. All were capable and likeable officers. I'm now 88 yrs. old but remember quite a lot about my tour on the Conway.

My grandfather, Charles B. Wheeler served on the Conway sometime in the 40's (I believe). He passed away in '97. I'm trying to gather some info to put together a book about the Conway and his time serving on her for my grandma, Roberta "Bobbie" Wheeler and the rest of my family. My grandpa never really talked about his time in the service, I only heard a few stories from a friend that worked with him. If anyone has any info I would really appreciate it!

My father William Chaney served on the Conway and was awarded the Navy Commendation Medal and I just wanted to try and find more info about him while he served he was discharged in Feb 1963

My dad listed on ship roster Tim McCoy served on USS Conway during WWII. He spoke little of war but told about different places he had been. Any shipmates who may know of him ,i would love to hear some stories. He passed away in June 2001. He was a torpedoman 2nd class TM2. I believe he served around 1943-1945. He loved the Navy-i still root for them in the Army-Navy game. Any info or stories would be helpful.

I am the daughter of George W. Merck who served on the Conway in WW2. Although we watched Victory at Sea in the 60's on tv it is now more important for me to understand what this service entailed. My father died in 1984 of cancer, however my mother Betty is living and 90 years old.

My grandfather Jesse L. Conder served on the U.S.S. Conway during WWII and I was wondering if anyone is still around that might have know him or have pictures with him. He was a chief petty officer in rank i believe, he also served as a cook while on the ship. Thanks
