Welcome to the USS Conway DD/DDE-507

Welcome USS Conway's Logbook

Comments:
I served on the Conway from Jan 1966 to Nov 1968. I started on the deck force and then became a torpedo man. I made to 1966 Westpac cruise / around the world cruise and a Med cruise in 1967.
I would like to know if there was a Westpac cruise book printed and here I may get a copy even if its copied.

My dad, Jack R. Allen was on the U.S.S. Conway from November, 1950 to 1953 or 1954. He said they went from Guantanamo Bay to Korea, Panama Canal, Hawaii, Yokosuka, Japan, Sasebo, Japan (Not sure of spelling).

I have his invitation from the Commanding Officer, Officers and Crew requesting the honor of your presence at the commissioning of the U.S.S. I also have his paper that says:

My dad, Frank Alexander, was stationed onboard the Conway from 1950-1954 along with my uncle Robert "Bob" Rowland. Dad had passed away about 10 years ago and we would like to have some pictures from his Navy days if anyone has any for his memorial we are making for him. I appreciate any and all comments. From one veteran to the many on here, Thank You All for your service. :D

We had a great reunion in Mystic. Ct. It was our 31st annual reunion so we have been doing this for some time. Next Sept. we will be in New Bern, NC. for our 32nd reunion. Our hosts Rick & Pam Miller are excited to be hosting and expect a great turn-out. If any shipmate has stayed in touch with a buddy from the Conway and they have never attended a reunion, let them know about it. If you have never attended a reunion you have no idea what you are missing so make your plans. The reunion info will be posted on this site when every-thing is final. Please pass the word!!! Hope to see new shipmates next year.

I reported aboard the Conway along with G W Harris, Feb 1954, as EMFA.
J D Gray and I transferred to USS SHENADOAH AD26 after I was promoted to EM 2 on May 1956.
I attended the Conway reunion when it was held in Norfolk along with KV Young, JD Gray, GW Harris. We all were electricians mates at the time we were on the Conway.
I went into the Naval Air Reserves after getting off of active duty and flew as a radar operator on P2s, and P3s until the Navy "fired" me because of high year tenure. I had over 38 years when I retired.
I still shake my head and laugh at some of the things I remember about my time on the Conway.
My first overseas port was Havana, Cuba. Drinking those 15 cent rum and cokes were hard on a none drinker.
Standing Shore Patrol on the "Bloody Mile" was some thing you never will forget.
Our Chief was Joe Quall, great guy, Division officers were Wright, Du Boise, and Mercer.
Gads we were young. I will be 82 next week. It all seems like yesterday
