I was the DCA aboard Conway 1966-67 and made the 'round the world Westpac cruise in 66. On a recent vacation in Maine, discovered the Conway Museum in Camden; what a pleasant surprise as I had never heard of it before. They have done a very nice job with Conway's history. This website is also great. Nice to see comments from shipmates.

While at the reunion in San Diego, Ca. Someone said I always wear my Conway cap when traveling which is some thing I have not done befor. But I was sure to do this this trip. So! while I was at the Phoenix airport a security guard asked If I served on the Conway ? Yes " Hey he said so did I " In 1967- 68 His name is Henry Benaurdes Rd2c
I told him of the great Reunion we just had in SD Ca. How he misse seeing his old shipmates from his tour.
Now I have to find his address as he also mentioned a shipmate whom has passed away. I will to find this information.
So wear your caps and show off your ship with pride

Robert

Served aboard the Conway from 1966 to 1968 as a gunnersmate guns, made 3rd class. Made the Med cruise that almost sank us. It was an honor to serve aboard her and the great and no so great crew. That was really what being a destroyer sailor was really about, no inboard passages, all up and over. Great memories.

As a reminder, if you are planning on attending the 2009 Reunion in San Diego, you must call the Town & Country Hotel at 1-800-772-8527 by August 1st to take advantage of the $99 per day rate. Remember, this $99 rate is good for three days before and three days after the reunion on a space available basis.

Hope to see everyone there for a grand time.
