Welcome USS Conway's Logbook

Comments:
I am the daughter of George W. Merck who served on the Conway in WW2. Although we watched Victory at Sea in the 60's on tv it is now more important for me to understand what this service entailed. My father died in 1984 of cancer, however my mother Betty is living and 90 years old.

I send his shipmates my best wishes and gratitude for your terrible brave service.

Best wishes, Josie Merck

I served on the USS Conway from 1962-64. Cuban Blockade, two Med cruises, the icing incident off Martha's Vinyard and many ASW runs off the N.C. Coast and the Carribean. I was seperated after the the Med trip that included the Suez Canal and Persian Gulf. I was an ET3 and have many fond memories of the guys I served with and the USS Conway DD-507.

Change my date on the Conway to 1961 to 1962. Like to hear from any Sonarman from that period.

My Grandfather, Aloysius Granatowski, known as Al, served on the USS Conway from 1944- 1947. He was an MM3 and I have seen some of his pictures in the photo pages on this website.
Is there anyone who remembers him or has stories to share?
Unfortunately, he passed away this past Tuesday, January 12th. He spoke fondly of his time in the Navy and was very proud to be on the Conway. Like many, however, he didn't share too many personal stories. So if there are any out there I would love to hear them.
Thank you so much,
Lynn Granatowski Honderd
